Seawater Intake Pipeline Cleaning and Maintenance

Desalination plants require an uninterrupted and efficient seawater supply. Seawater intake pipelines are critical infrastructure and over time, these pipelines are prone to biofouling, siltation, and scaling, which can reduce flow efficiency and damage equipment. Pigging operations are a fast and efficient way of removing marine growth, sediment deposits, and other obstructions from a contaminated pipe, reducing downtime to the system and with minimal ecological impact. Pigging operations are normally carried out in the reverse direction from normal intake operations, from onshore to offshore. This direction allows for greater control and expels the marine fouling back out to sea. The expected outcome on completion of pigging is to fully restore pipeline capacity and seawater intake flowrates.
