Upgrading OCP's SWRO Plant in Morocco: A Compact i-UF Solution

We present a case study from Morocco, where OCP operated an SWRO plant experiencing rapid membrane fouling due to insufficient pretreatment with disc and pleated cartridge filters. Drawing on their extensive experience with ultrafiltration (UF) in the region, OCP sought a more reliable pretreatment solution. However, the lack of available space prevented installation of a conventional UF system.

Fluytec addressed this challenge with our integrated UF (i-UF) technology, designed for direct coupling with SWRO. This approach enabled a double filtration stage (screening + UF) to be installed in the limited footprint previously occupied by the disc filters, without requiring additional plant area.

This case study demonstrates how i-UF overcomes space constraints while ensuring consistent water quality and protecting SWRO membranes. The solution also highlights opportunities to apply compact UF systems in other retrofit scenarios, such as adding tertiary treatment to existing wastewater treatment plants.
