Treatment options for oversaturated calcium sulphate industrial wastewater.

The presentation addresses the removal of sulfate (SO₄²⁻) from oversaturated industrial wastewaters, particularly those resulting from sulfuric acid neutralization with lime. Traditional processes leave effluent saturated with SO₄²⁻, risking scaling and regulatory penalties. Electrodialysis (ED) is proposed as an effective solution, reducing SO₄²⁻ and total dissolved solids (TDS) and lowering water consumption. Case studies in surface treatment and chemical plants demonstrate significant reductions in TDS and river water use, with improved process efficiency and economic benefits. ED enables recycling of process water and reduces environmental impact.
