Next-Gen Pretreatment: Reducing Costs and Waste with Automatic Screen Filtration
Effective pretreatment is critical in desalination to prevent membrane fouling and extend operational lifespan. Traditionally, cartridge filters have been the industry standard for fine filtration before reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. However, their high head loss, frequent replacements, and excessive waste generation contribute to increased labor demands and high operational costs. Filtersafe introduces a patented, self-cleaning screen filtration technology as a superior alternative to cartridge filters. This innovation reduces energy consumption by up to 99% in this filtration stage while minimizing waste and maintenance efforts. Following four five of pilot testing, this breakthrough is now being implemented at the Western Galilee Desalination Plant in Israel, treating a flow of 37,000 m³/h (162MMY)
This presentation will highlight the operational advantages of automatic screen filtration, its impact on sustainability, cost efficiency, and real-world performance data.
Attendees will gain insights into how this technology can transform pretreatment strategies in desalination, optimizing plant efficiency while reducing environmental impact.
